NewbieDM Review: Neverwinter Campaign Setting

August 20, 2011

I’ll start this review by telling you that I’ve never been a huge Forgotten Realms guy, although I love the older Forgotten Realms products. I’ve owned the boxed sets, source books and a few novels from the 2e era of the Realms. I even own the 3e forgotten Realms book, even though I played very […]

Gencon 2011 Wrap-Up

August 10, 2011

So Gencon 2011 has come and gone, and I have to say that I had a fantastic time! I ran 3 games (Dragon Age, and rpgKids), played some Drunken D&D, 4e D&D (which I miss playing) and a late night game of Fiasco. I also met up with some great friends both old and new. […]

rpgKids at Gencon

July 27, 2011

My ADD sometimes gets the best of me, and this is one of those times… You’d think a guy with a role-playing game for sale would want to do anything possible to promote it at the largest gaming convention… Geez. Anyway, I’d like to see if there’s interest in me running rpgKids at Gencon. If […]

My Gencon Schedule

July 25, 2011

I’ll be attending my third Gencon this year, and unlike previous years, I’ll be attending solo… If you want to hook up while I’m there, the easiest way to reach me will be through my twitter account, but I’ll be checking email throughout the weekend as well. I found out that as far as today […]

3 Years Behind the Screen

July 20, 2011

Last month marked my third anniversary as a full time DM, and I still enjoy it so much that I haven’t passed the baton to someone else. It’s actually pretty incredible that I’ve been able to do it for so long without losing much interest (and the same goes for running this blog), as I […]

NewbieDM Review: A Whole Bunch of Stuff….

July 18, 2011

I haven’t reviewed stuff in a while, and recently I was offered the chance to review some stuff from Open Design and Engine Publishers so I wanted to share my thoughts with you. As a disclaimer, these PDF’s were offered to me in exchange for a review. Also, upfront I’ll tell you that I enjoyed […]

On August 1st, buy something at a bookstore

July 14, 2011

I grew up around books. Shelves and shelves of them. My dad is an avid reader, so is my brother. I have to admit that as a kid, I read a lot less than them, but books were always a part of the scenery. My wife has a masters degree in reading education, and when […]

On the ENnie nominations

July 13, 2011

Okay, back from a wonderful 2 week vacation… but now it’s time to get back to the blog… A year ago I was pleasantly surprised when this blog, and its accompanying podcast, where nominated for a pair of ENnies. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be nominated, and I’d be lying if […]

Reader Tutorial: Build Your Own Aerial Combat Stand

June 20, 2011

Hey guys, NewbieDM here…. As you may know, I love showcasing what readers of the site do in their own games, and often provide a space here for tutorials and other things that DM’s may find useful. This article, by Scott Harris, caught my eye when he first proposed it to me. Aerial combat is […]

The Ipad DM: Index Cards

June 2, 2011

I recently purchased an Ipad, and am now using it at my gaming table. My primary use for it is my gaming books, which are in PDF form, rather than print copies. But this series of articles will not really be only about reading pdf’s (although I’ll cover pdf software eventually in this series), but […]
