About newbiedm.com

I first became interested in D&D back in the 80’s.  My brother and I were given the Basic Rules Red Box, along with the Expert set.  He “got it” right away, while I was wondering “what the heck am I supposed to do with this Isle of Dread book?”

I eventually got it of course, and the bug hit me pretty bad.  In high school I was in a 1st edition campaign, then moved on to Advanced D&D through the 90’s.  Then I was out of the game for a while.  3rd Ed. came but my interests were elsewhere…  I played some, but not consistently.

I picked up the 4th ed. books, and for me, it’s been the easiest edition of D&D to pick up and play.  So easy that I chose to DM, something I never really felt I was skilled enough to do.  I gathered those guys from high school, and started a campaign.  It’s been awesome.

So what exactly is newbiedm.com?  Well, if you are a first time DM, it’s the place to go to for helpful tutorials on making your own gaming tokens, printing maps at 1″ scale, advice, tips, and plenty more.  Chances are, if you have a question as a first time DM, I may have had it at some point as well and have probably tackled it here.

Have a look around, enjoy yourself, and don’t feel intimidated by your journey as a newbie dm.  You’re not alone.

Good gaming!!!

  1. Wow… what a fantastic resource. I am not a newbie DM… it seems like all I ever get to do is DM. I never get to actually play. I must say that I’m struggling with 4e, though. After playing a while, does the “old ad&d flavor” come back?

I just wanted to say great site! I have been following around my boyfriend while he builds up his DM inventory and for the first time ever bought myself the 4e for beginners… I played a long long long time ago and the campaign was similar to the way the game is set up now but honestly I was having a hard time understanding everything… The blogs that you have posted throughout your site has really opened up some really neat discussions. So thanks for that. Keep it going, sharing your site to friends thanks.

  3. Hello, not certain if it’s my computer system or your web page, but your ideal sidebar is covering some of the text in the middle of the page if that makes any sense? I’ve reloaded the page a couple of instances, and the same issue keeps happening. I stop by from time to time and havn’t noticed this just before.

  4. I’d have to examine with you here. Which isn’t one thing I normally do! I get pleasure from studying a post that will make folks think. Additionally, thanks for permitting me to comment!
