Well… return is a harsh word, as the Minicast never went away, it was just on a summer break. But it’s back, so all is right in the world now, call off the search and rescue.
Really though, I took a break from the Minicast over the summer. I had a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, both at work and at home, and gave the Minicast a break, but now it’s back to what will hopefully be a regular schedule once again.
Here are the show notes:
In this episode of the Minicast, the first one back after a long summer hiatus, I am joined by Mark Meredith, one of the hosts of The RPG Circus podcast, and writer of the Dice Monkey blog.
Together we offer advice to a DM whose players are rolling a lot worse than he is at the table, and is beginning to affect their game.

Fantastic! Been waiting around for the latest one.
How about for the next one, you can address how to deal with players who roll too well? My players always roll a 10 and above, making encounters and skill challenges fall too heavily on the “everybody’s a special and uniquely beautiful hero snowflake” side of the 4th edition ethos to the point that there is no challenge.
Not a real ‘problem,’ I know. But still.

Newbie!
I listened to this episode last night with my son who is learning the fine art of DM’ing.
We agreed that you may be a little off base on this one–rolling behind a screen and/or ‘fudging’ ones roles is for rookies. The game is about fun for everyone, including the DM! And if he is rolling well he should celebrate, just like the players do.
In a well designed balanced encounter, if the players are loosing they run. That is part of the game. If they show up to the boss without Healing Surges, they will learn.
We roll dice for a reason, and if you cheat on that it opens the door for everything else, in my opinion. And the dice will ALWAYS even out over time, that is why it is called the LAW of Averages, right?
Keep up the good work. Thanks, David S.
