Just a quick post to scream and shout to the world about how freakin’ excited I am about the fact that I am going to Gencon this year. It’s my first time going to any sort of convention, so I am not just excited, but very curious about what awaits us. Besides all the gaming goodness I plan on getting done, one of my other hopes is to meet plenty on people while I’m out there. It’ll be nice to put a real life face on the people I interact with online thanks to this great hobby.
Having said that, if you’re going to be at Gencon, and would like to meet up and chat or play some D&D, I’ll be on my email (newbiedm@newbiedm.com), and twitter account (@newbiedm) while I’m there. My schedule isn’t as planned out as everyone else’s online, mainly because I’m really a newbie going into this thing. (Which I’d be remiss if I didn’t blog about it for this site while I was there.)
So look out for some posts on a newbie dm’s guide to Gencon, just in case you’ve been wanting to take the plunge but haven’t yet and want to see it through a newbie’s eyes.

Hey, I really hope to see you there, and put a face to the writing. Do you plan on attending any of the blogger meetups?

I land thursday at around 1 and plan to make a mad dash to the 430 rpgbloggers seminar.
I really hope I make it. We’ll hook up.

Lucky! I’m jealous. The only con I’ve ever made it to is Noncon, which was tiny, but fun. I always seem to just miss them.

Just remember the 1,2,3 rule: Always take at least one shower, eat two good meals, and get three hours of sleep every day. Set aside a few daytime hours just for walking up and down the aisles of the exhibit hall and art show. Most importantly, Play Games. Do demos in the exhibit hall, stop by the Fisher ballroom in the Omni Severin hotel for small press Games On Demand, and get into some board/card/RPG sessions in the evenings if you can. But don’t overdo it to the point of exhausting yourself…there’s always next year.

You lucky, lucky person. The only convention I have attended fitted inside a sports hall. And I loved that. Would love to go to a massive one like GenCon.

You picked the right convention to attend for the first time! Remember, almost all of the surrounding hotels have games running in their lobbies / conference areas as well!
