The RPG Bloggers Network Campaign Setting

I want to announce a project that I think would be wonderful for the RPG Community as a whole.  Jonathan Jacob’s “Open Game Table” proved that when the RPG Blogging community works together, the results can be immpresive.  So here I’m proposing that we band together once more, and offer the gaming community the “RPG Bloggers Campaign Setting”.

It's our world, let's play God!

It's our world, let's play God!

Here’s how it will work:  I will provide an empty map of a continent, and then those bloggers that wish to participate will be assigned a plot on the map, and it will be theirs to fill in, populate, and create.  You’ll also know who borders your area, in case you want to communicate with them for some border issues, or other things neighbors need to work out…

Then at the end of the project, we will fill in the map with all our creations and have a fully detailed world created by the community.  The time limit to create your slice of the world is yet to be determined, but it will be enough to get something going.  You aren’t working on a two-week deadline here.  These things take time.

In the end, I hope we can compile the world into a nicely produced PDF that then we can offer our readers for download.

Here are the rules for entry, if you’d like to join this project:

  • Email MadBrewLabs  at madbrewlabs @ gmail .com and myself at newbiedm @ newbiedm .com for entry in the project.  We both need to know who’s interested, so email us both.
  • You have to be a member of the RPGBloggers Network.  If you happen to read my blog and are a blogger yourself, and you aren’t a member of the network, what are you waiting for?  If you blog about RPG’s you should be on the network!!  C’mon now…

Understand this though, just wanting to participate in the campaign setting project doesn’t automatically qualify you for membership in the RPGBloggers Network.  It’s not my network, nor my decision.  I’m just a member.  Your blog would still need to meet the standards they’ve set for membership.  Participating, or wanting to participate in this project isn’t one of them  🙂

That’s it!  It’s that simple.  Once you let us know you’d like to participate you’ll be given a page on our google documents page for the setting.

The deadline for entry is Wednesday, April 1st.

If you are a blogger, and apply for the network to get in on this project, let us know and we’ll extend the deadline pending your approval. Right now we haven’t set a deadline for the finished world. We’ll wait until everyone is on board and starts working on it.

Jonathan proved that when bloggers unite, we can make quality stuff that rivals anyone else out there.  I’m sure this will be no exception.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years as a roleplayer, it’s that the hobby attracts creative and intelligent people.

I also want to thank Michael at www.madbrewlabs.com for his help with the project.  He’s the one that set up the google page and got the ball rolling with that end of the deal.  If you’ve never been to his site, go and check it out, it’s worth it.

Have fun!
