NewbieDM Review: Hrothgar’s Hoard DM Solution

I normally do not do Kickstarter reviews or plugs, as I prefer to review final products finished and ready to go in my hands, but the folks at Hrothgar’s Hoard offered to send me a prototype of their DM’s Solution wooden box, and I agreed. Lets take a quick look at what’s inside.

The DM Solution is a hinged box approximately 10″ x 9″ x 2.5″, made from solid hardwood using traditional jointery. The laser engraved top opens up using steel stop-hinges, and it includes a whiteboard glued inside for notes, initiative lists, etc.

There are two neat things I really like about this product: a dice tower that stands upright inside the box via strong magnets, and the fact that the box is elevated off the table with antique looking clawed legs.

The quality of the box is really good. The dragon design is a nice addition to the product, and helps sell the “feel” of the product. The hinged top stays open. The white board is a nice touch as well, although as a leftie, I don’t know that I’ll be using it much as intended (don’t ask, it’s a leftie thing).

My favorite part of the package is the dice tower. I think that using magnets to hold it steady in the tray is a pretty ingenious way to do it, and I took  it for a test run with my dice. I can tell you that it works well. The tower never felt like it would fall off the tray.

 

All in all, if you’re in the market for a dice storage solution, this is a pretty solid buy. The combination of storage/tray/tower is useful. It’s an elegant product and could be a very nice addition to your table.

Necessary? Probably not. Nice to have? I think so.
