Any game that is tabletop, face to face, and involves a story is gonna be a Role Play game. Unless you're dealing with a table full of autistic players that's just the REALITY of the situation. You couldn't have it NOT be role play even if you wanted to.

I especially liked this bit...

" Award XP equivalent to a monster of their level for every 15 minutes they spend in significant, story-advancing role playing."

I've been doing that for a good 6 months now. It's pretty much mandatory IMO. I have to admit I still don't have skill challenges down and will tend to intersperse skill checks all throughout the game instead - but maybe DMG 2 will help me in that regard.

I've got great players. They roleplay even in combat, describing exactly how they use their powers (be it dayly, encounters and so on). Heck, I even sometimes have players making stunts at the table just to show what they want to pull is doable :p (we did have to stop once because of a bad fall, nothing serious, but it looked painfull.) When they rebuke undead, they give speeches, when they bluff, they actually invents the lies out right (and i give a bonus or a malus to the roll on their bluff skills). You can role play with minatures... It is possible...

I agree with Wyatt; don't bother with the detractors. The complaints being levied against 4E are often just symptoms of a generic dislike for WotC's new direction, or of the way 3E was cast off, or of X tangentially related issue. If you remove one argument against it, two more will spring up in its place. Improvements to the game will convert some players, and others will find new reasons to dislike it. Meh, we're enjoying our games, I hope they enjoy theirs as well.

BUT IT'S STILL A MINIATURES WARGAME MANG. IT HAS SQUARES AND BATTLEMATS. YOU CAN'T ROLEPLAY WITH THAT. DURRRRRRRRRRRR.

Good review, and I will definitely be getting this book. But honestly, don't even waste your breath on the people who argue that you can't roleplay in 4e. They will find new and creative ways to argue with you regardless of what you say or what anyone publishes. Right now you're just inviting them to argue with you more. A bold move, but a large waste of your time.
