I recently came across a nice piece of software for DM’s of 4th Ed. who need a little bit of help organizing and keeping their campaign stuff in order. The program includes flowcharts for your adventures that link to encounters, maps, and all sorts of stuff. You can even use Dungeon Tiles to plan and map out your encounters!
I’m not doing it any justice by writing about it here. Just go check it out yourselves.
It’s called Masterplan, and I found it on the WOTC forums. The designer posts by the name of Devereaux on the boards.
Here is the thread on the forums.
Here is the project’s website.
Go check it out!

Wizards will never do right by anyone on the blogosphere, will they?

Any opportunity they can find to get on their soapboxes and slam WotC they take it. Too bad for them that the 4E books are selling like crazy. Their clamoring against 4E is really a futile effort.

^^ SARCASM ^^
Anyway… since I write mainly about 4E — you could say that I’m a fan. But, the game and the company behind it are too separate things. Also, the game designers are also a separate thing from the company (people often lump them in together too). Meh… I was trying sarcastic humor… the nerd rage the last week or so on the net was been way too high. Check out this post and the comments to see wtf I mean. Not sure who is guilty of nerd rage over there… but its presence is obvious. Again… I was commenting about _the company_ — oh fer fraks sake; someone hand me a shovel; I can’t seem to stop blathering…
thanks for the link NewbieDM; very much appreciated. As someone who avoids forums generally, I would have never found that app w/o your post!

What jonathon said. I love 4e D&D, but not the way Wizards are doing business right now. But anyhow.
I meant my comment only half in jest. It’s a good app, but very close to something that WoTC offer inside the DDI. They’ve already pulled two sites that tread too closely on their toes, so I don’t hold out much hope that this’ll be around for long. Here’s hoping I’m proven wrong.

I know.
I like this app better than what I paid for….
I hope Wizard’s doesn’t pull it, although if he refrains from offering stats and verbatim stuff from the books and keeps it within fair use, why not?
The guys that got shut down were offering power cards with text lifted from the book… it’s a different animal.

There are dozens of apps and sites out there for D&D. The two in question weren’t stepping on toes, they were photcopying and distributing toes. Bit of a difference. If WotC has no problems with Asmors excellent utilities (which are linked just about everywhere) then I doubt this will cause a fuss.

Great tool! Downloaded and finding the time to take it for a whirl with it.
Thanks for sharing.

Since the program is using insider to build its libraries, therefore users have to have a valid and active insider account to get and update the data the program isn’t providing any copywrighted material on its own. Which means I don’t see a rationale for a cease and desist order. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, just that I don’t see the justification.

This is the most powerful DM’ing software I’ve ever seen. What’s even more unbelievable is it’s free. I hope WoTC doesn’t send a cease and desist.

Oh look, Wizards actually DID do a C&D. There’s a reason WOTC can’t “do right” by the blogosphere.

Yeah, but the developers are still developing, and it’s going from strength to strength.
